W elcome to my new website. I’m really excited about it since I’ve never HAD a website before! But, my friends out on the Tour, various business partners and my family all thought it would make a lot of sense for me to have a presence on the Internet.
I had to think about it for a few weeks since having a digital presence means you have to manage that presence as well. With so much International tour activity, the long hours of travel, let alone practicing and playing in tournament events, I was worried that it might require more time than I have. And, a website is not as simple to build and update as a Facebook page, or a Twitter account. But, I became convinced it’s not as hard as it looks.
First, why have a website when I already have a Facebook fan page? Frankly, there’s a lot of information that fans all around the world ask me about that’s very difficult to post & host on a Facebook page. Part of the reason is that Facebook continually pushes “old” information down the page as I add photos or my daily thoughts on Facebook. With a website, many pages aren’t updated very often, but they are easily accessible through the menus on the website and that makes finding information so much easier.
Second, with the new technology tools available for managing websites, I can access the back end of my website regardless of where I am in the world. So, I can add blog updates to What I Think (my blog) very easily. It’s always fun to learn new things, and accessing my website through these easy content management services is helping me learn a little bit about digital technology. Since technology has become so pervasive these days, learning just enough to be dangerous is a good thing!
When I sat down with my development team at Communication Links in Scottsdale, my basic charge to them was:
- Be different
- I love the color purple
- Capture my golf and non-golf activities.
We also decided to focus on 4 attributes that drive me…and that can each be captured in 1 word: Professional, Playful, Approachable and Golfer.
I’m really happy with the way the new website turned out. I hope you do, too. Please let me hear from you with any thoughts or comments you’d like to send along. I do my best to respond to everyone, but I hope you’ll understand if I sometimes get a little behind in reaching out. The global nature of the LPGA TOUR, and my commitments both on and off the course, can make it tough to be as responsive as I’d like to be.
